The Leon Beyer family have been wine-growers in Eguisheim, the cradle of the Alsace wine-producing region, since 1580. Grapes cultivated on the best slopes of Eguisheim and the surrounding area are the raw material from which the prestigious Beyer wines have forged their high worldwide reputation. Famed British wine writer Hugh Johnson states: “The Beyer wines are the most masculine of any Alsace wines: firm, broad, dry, substantial and traditional in style.
Tasting Note
Full-bodied and well-structured, is probably the best-known Alsace wine. Its intense bouquet displays rich aromas of fruit, flowers and spices (gewurz = spicy). Powerful and seductive, sometimes slightly sweet, it can often age well.
Recommendations
Very nice aperitifs to serve cool (12°C = 54°F) with any rich and tasty cuisine, strong tasty cheese, blue cheese, superb with spicy cuisine like Chinese, Thai, Indian and Japanese.
