皮特·帕恩是当代爱沙尼亚最著名的动画大师。他本来念生物学,大学时期已开始画讽刺漫画,一九七六年加入塔林电影制片厂担任动画师。当时制片厂拍摄的动画电影,以儿童及教育为主。Priit Parn的早期作品,例如《小把戏》,就是拍给小朋友看的,不过从中已经可以看到他的搞鬼风格,短片里的小熊就像孙悟空懂得七十二变,能够变成不同的东西,吸引其他动物的注意。一九八四年的《休息时间》更是创意澎湃,虽然只有短短九分钟,却充满了天马行空的想像:眼镜可以变成鸡蛋,然后孵出眼睛;地平线原来不是地平线,山也不是山,水也不是水,总之令人意想不到。
一九八七年的《草地上的早餐》令帕恩声名大噪。一九九一年爱沙尼亚脱离苏联独立之后,Priit Parn继续制作了多部动画,包括在东欧暗室与粉色美国梦之间徘徊的《Hotel E》;趁着电影一百周年杜撰一段卢米埃兄弟(Auguste and Louis Lumiere)的生平,藉以反思电影本身的《一八九五》;趁着千年虫问题回应电脑时代的《胡萝卜之夜》;还有影射马克思和玛丽莲梦露的《卡尔和玛丽莲》。
《卡尔和玛丽莲》拿马克思的胡子和玛丽莲梦露的裙摆来开玩笑。酷似马克思的Karl是个万人迷,为了一尝当平凡人的滋味,不惜剃掉胡子和头发,甚至挥刀杀死理发师。穷家女Marilyn则梦想成为众人偶像,干掉老妈之后,穿上紧身裙,仿效《七年之痒》的梦露,不停跑到通风口上扬起裙摆,吸引途人注目。故事里还出现了貌似约翰连侬的摄影师,以及酷似哲古华拉的警探。Priit Parn不脱戏谑本色,以异想天开的情节,嘲讽群众盲目崇拜的心态,无论是共产年代的个人崇拜(以毛发浓密的Karl为代表)还是全球化年代的偶像崇拜(以全身脱毛的Marilyn为代表),原来都如出一辙。
