众所周知，SAT的学习备考时间相当紧迫。因此，我们建议你首先牢记这两件关于SAT非常重要的事：
1.SAT不测试的内容。
SAT既不测试智力水平也不衡量学生高中学习的深度和广度。它不像你的高中成绩那样，可以预测你的大学成绩。很多大学也对是否使用25分钟写作成绩作为录取的一个因素犹疑不定（对于大学申请来说，那篇应试作文，可以说是整个SAT中最没用的部分。）。招生官员们知道，一个学生有不少闪光之处。他们不会仅仅因为一篇考场作文的优劣或者一项标准化考试的好坏来评定一个学生的优劣。通常，他们会考虑更多其他因素，来综合评定一个学生的水平。
2.SAT并不足以预测女性、少数民族和弱势学生将来在大学里的表现。
以前，女生的SAT成绩通常比男生要差，但她们在大学里的表现却更优秀。SAT成绩不足以预示学生将来在大学的表现状况。
当然，这不代表你不用参加SA丁。虽然大部分学校也接受ACT考试成绩（另一种入学考试，在中西部地区比较流行），而且一些文理学院（LiberalArtSSchools）不硬性要求SAT成绩，但是那些竞争激烈的学校仍然是需要SAT成绩的。对于SAT的缺陷，你要采取的态度是：不要在意最后的分数如何，只管你是否在考试时发挥正常，这就足够了。
