内容提要
Russian classical balled is one of the brightest stars of world culture. The Moscow City Ballet, created in November 1988 under the artistic management of Victor Smirnov-Golovanov, is composed of graduates of three ballet schools: The Leningrad, Perm and Moscow, which constitute the three leading directions in choreography. The values of Russian classical ballet and its close ties with the culture of Russian theatre, underline the cornpany, s activity.
This ballet was first choreographed for MAYA PLISETKAYA with the Bolshoi ballet and first perfromed in Cuba.
THE CARMEN SUITE presents the Familiar story of Merimee's novella of a mortal combat in a simulated bullring, emphasising the character of the participants rather than the plot.
We see CARMAEN, DON JOSE AND THE TOREADOR assume their expected roles, the ballet being dominated throughtout by fate in the form of a bull. To emphasise this fact, a huge head of a bull painted on the backdrop high over the arena, dominates the decor.
The story is the familiar one of Carmen, Jree and true to herself falling in love with Don Jose and then leaving him for the glamourous toreador. The final "pas de deux", a dance contest between Carmen and Don jose, is a simulated bullfight in which the ballerina assumes the combined roles of heroine and fate in the form of a bull.
The role of Carmen is performed by Nadezhda Pavlova, previously Prima Balerina with the Bolshoi Ballet. Her great trade-marks are fragility and gentleness, sinceriry and human charm.
