MIKHAIL BERKUT is internetlonally known as a master of Character Dance.A graduate of the Moscow Theatre institute, he established his reputation in a career in the Soviet Union which included teeing the Kirov Academy and Company and the Bolshoi atfllated Sputnik School.
He setUed in the West m 1975, fOUnding 'Lea Ballets Russes de Montreal' and creating the Character Dance Company 'Kalinka'. As well as teaohing in universities and dance companies in North America, he has been a frequent guest teacher-choreographer in alII the major dance capitals of Europe. He now lires in London teaching at Royal Ballet School and others.
CHARACTER DANCE combines elements from folk traditions and national dance styles with the formal styiisations of classical Bellet. it is a genre with a long and distinguished history, both in poputar dance and the classical opera and ballet repertoire.
Mikhatl Berkut has made the study of Character Dance his life's WOrk, and these videos form part of his unique and complete syllabus.
