Basically there are three reading models in second language learning．
According to Barnett（1989），the first type is bottom-up model，which is“text-driven'：to comprehend written language，the readers rely on their abilityto decode words，phrases，and sentences and“build up”comprehension in a somewhat linear fashion from this incoming data．Cambourne（1979）illustrates how the process is supposed to work：
