LOVE

That is the true season of love,

when we believe that we alonecan love, that no one could everhave loved so before us, andthat no one will love in the

same way after us.

Love is something eternal ... the aspect may

change, but not the essence. There is the same

difference in a person before and after he is in

love as there is in an unlighted lamp and one

that is burning. The lamp was there and it was

a good lamp, but now it is shedding light, too,

and that is its real function.

Love is a dweller in strange placesand has no proper address. It isno more remarkable to find itlighting the dim marble halls ofa palace than blazing on the humble hearth,

and the house that knows it not is dark

and cold indeed. It is the penchant of poets

to crown love with roses,

discover it beside a limpid stream

or in verdant meadows, but a lover knowsthis has no bearing on the matter,

and given love, the desert springs with flowers.
