Beware of the new type of Opium!
A question has been bothering me since the moment I saw them--- I wonder if I should admit that they are really new, nice stuff---network games. They are always masked with a mask named “computer network games.” , or veiled with the crown “high-and-new technique” that could arouse young people’s intelligence. Network-game Companies come up to us like bamboo shoots in spring, shouting that network-game would save the computer game industry. But the fact is fact; it speaks louder than words.
Some time ago, here in the forum there was a discussion about the downsides and upsides about net bars. I stated my opinion then, saying that whether net bars are good or not depends on how people use the Interest. It certainly is true, but …maybe it’s not that simple. Every time I enter a net bar, I see very few people doing something really meaningful, instead, the overwhelming majority of people are devoting themselves in all kinds of network games, either murmuring with a pale face or shouting with a red face. And most of the customers are young people. It’s reported that most net bars around China are just like this. Young people become crazy about those “inviting” network games, being unaware of the fact that they are losing in reality when they are winning in the virtual world.
A colleague of mine is one of these game fans. Seeing my big improvement in English, he decided again and again to begin learning English. But when he’s sitting before the computer, he’s caught by, I’d rather say he’s obsessed, by an evil ghost named “stone age” and later “Bianfeng” and later “legend” and later---it’s a shame for me to remember those dirty names---on which lots of time and energy and money have been spent. He became high-spirited when fighting in the games and dead-alive when being in the office. Again and again, I remind him and warn him. But seems all my efforts are wasted. He, I believe he’s like most so-called game fans, is always ready to cook up various of excuses. “It’s fantastic! You don’t know how fun it is.” “I can control myself, it won’t do me any bad.” “So many people are playing, can it be really bad thing?” and then he gets deaf to my advice and turns himself to games. God, I’m sure the number of opium user will increase rapidly if taking opium were allowed by law in China!
Yeah, they are just like opium! They are poison covered with an inviting veil! They will lead you to devil! Don't you think? Remember? When opium was first shipped into China, it was not named opium, instead, it was “happiness-longevity ointment”. But very soon, people found it really deadly harmful and terribly addictive, and begun to deny it and resist it.I’m afraid it’s much harder to reveal the new opium’s real face than to reveal the old one. Because people still haven’t realized it’s terrible consequence! Don’t tell me you can do very well both in real life and in network-game’s world. Take a look at the latest <Computer Newspaper 电脑报> published in November the fourth. Even students in those famous eminent universities cannot pull themselves back from the evil trap. You are better? You are stronger? Give me a break, give yourself a break!
Man, never touch opium. If you unfortunately have already been obsessed, then remember, the earlier you get rid of the opium, the better! The virtual pleasure won’t get you anywhere in real life! You are losing when you are cheating yourselves and your families and your beloved! Stop justify yourself, stop cooking up excuses and get awake! ---no ifs, no buts. The only way to quit is to quit cold turkey!
