All three kinds of rocks are described in brief sentences and illustrated. Additional information about crystals and erosion is included. Weathering by sand, wind, water, and plants is illustrated by a series of clear photographs. Specialized terms and their definitions appear at the bottom of each page. Occasionally the print is difficult to read when placed on a darker background. Examples of the various ways fossils can form are given as well as examples of how rocks are used. A section on dinosaurs, fossil plants, and fossil fuels is followed by three suggestions of "Things to Make and Do" such as a plaster of paris fossil mold and starting a rock collection. Several sizes of type are used to call attention to changes in topic. Magnifications of crystals, bones, and rock strata are superimposed on the background in circular sections.
