NASDAQ-listed Shanda Interactive Entertainment Limited will very soon unveil its first self-developed online instant messaging (IM) tool, Shanda PR Manager Li Lijun said. Shanda has already completed research and development of this new IM tool, which will be named "Quan Quan," a source close to the situation told Interfax. The Quan Quan IM tool successfully passed testing and demonstrations in April of this year. It was developed by Shanda's R&D team in Shanghai. Shanda is working to develop a number of the company's own online software applications for its existing online gaming platform. The company previously launched a self-developed online game download software in late 2004. In addition, Shanda is now also developing a new audiovisual software that once integrated into online games would allow users to listen to music and watch movies while simultaneously playing online games. Shanda is also in talks with a number of movie studios to form partnerships that would provide Shanda with films to offer its online game players through this new audiovisual software.
